Legislation Expansion
We’ve expanded the Legislation module and now offer 10 legislation. These 10 were selected based on case citation frequency, giving you the statutes most referred to in judgments.
Beyond the full text of each legislation, you’ll now find judgment references and book references for each provision (where available), making it easier to research directly within the statute.
Annotations to Legislation
Annotations to legislation is a tool meant to facilitate research on statutory provisions. You can browse AI-extracted legal principles on specific sections within a piece of legislation, specifically to the Companies Act for now. The aim is to help you get an overview of what the provision means, and how it’s been discussed in courts.
LEGAL RESEARCH
LawNet AI Search now includes books
LawNet AI Search can now draw on Academy Publishing book content when generating answers. This gives you a broader research starting point by bringing relevant book content into the same LawNet AI Search experience you already use for primary legal materials.
By default, the filter includes Singapore judgments, legislation, and Academy Publishing books, so book content is part of your results from the start. If you prefer to leave out a particular content type, simply uncheck that option in the filter.
Book sources appear separately from primary-source references, making it easier to distinguish between cases, legislation, and secondary materials. You can review extracts from the books used to generate the response and open the full book by clicking on the title.
Please note that access to the full book content requires a valid purchase of the digital book or an Academy Library subscription. Browse the catalogue of Academy Publishing titles on the LawNet store or learn how to subscribe to Academy Library.
ACADEMY LIBRARY
Download pages from Academy Library books
You can now download selected pages or chapters from Academy Library books as print-faithful PDFs, making it easier to include book extracts in your research records or bundles of authorities.
LawNet detects the page you are reading, lets you choose the pages or chapters you need, and assembles the download from the print-source version of the book. You can select specific pages, including the preliminary pages of a book, or select whole chapters and sub-chapters instead.
Downloads are subject to the applicable daily page limit. Please note that the download function is available for books published from 2020 onwards, and other books will be added progressively.
Access to the download feature requires a valid purchase of the digital book or an Academy Library subscription. Browse the catalogue of Academy Publishing titles on the LawNet store or learn how to subscribe to Academy Library.
Improvements
Legal Research
- Updated Search Tips: The Search Tips experience has been refreshed with updated guidance on searching within specific categories such as coram:, title:, party:, citation:, and catchword:.
- You can now use the format categoryName: “keyword” to narrow your search within a category, and combine categories with other search operators to further refine your results. For example, coram: “Yong Pung How” AND fraud
- The Search Tips dropdown has also been improved so the header is easier to recognise and use when expanding or collapsing the panel.
- More reliable search results and sorting: We have resolved issues affecting selected typeahead searches and NEAR/n queries. Search refinements should now behave more consistently, helping you get to the right results with fewer dead ends.
- Improved search suggestions and operators: Typeahead suggestions have been refined to better support structured legal searches, including searches using coram: and party: operators. This helps you build more precise queries directly from the search bar.
Legislation
- Smoother Table of Contents navigation: The legislation Table of Contents has been improved for smoother navigation and more responsive browsing.
- Resizable reference panel: You can now resize the legislation reference panel, giving you more flexibility to balance the statutory text with related references, books, judgments, and annotations.
Academy Library
- Faster access to book content: Academy Library loading performance has been improved so you can get into book content more quickly. Book links from Legal Research have also been added so the journey between LawNet research and available book content feels more connected.
- Smoother Table of Contents navigation: We have resolved issues where selecting a section could show incorrect content in some books.
